Explore the Eastern Shore in Winter There’s something about an old-fashioned winter that warms the heart. That’s what you’ll find when the snow flies on the Eastern Shore –traditions and timeless pastimes that make you remember why you loved winter so much as a kid.
We start heating up for the holidays in early November. The community of Lake Charlotte hosts 1940s-era traditional Christmas dinners. Musquodoboit and Sherbrooke go all out for their community festivals of celebrating Old-Fashioned Christmas, and you’ll find little tea & sale events and tree-lighting events that transport your soul right back to a simpler time. Outdoors, with a sprinkling of crisp snow underfoot, a day spent on one of our year-round trails like The Guysborough Nature Trail will get your heart pumping. The Guysborough Nature Trail was the first section of the Trans-Canada Trail to be built in Nova Scotia. Pack your camera to capture an image of a frozen waterfall or the great view from the suspension bridge. This well-maintained trail system is ideal for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. The perfect follow-up to a day enjoying the outdoors, of course, is a fireside meal with comfort food that satisfies on every level and an evening concert by a Celtic roots group in a gracious seaside theatre brings a winter day to a close with a standing ovation.
