Eastern Shore Climate and Weather
On the Eastern Shore we are graced with the moderating influences of the Gulf Stream cruising by our coast, so our temperatures are spared extremes of both summer heat and winter cold. Spring arrives here usually in mid to late April and the summer solstice tends to mark the arrival of typical days of beach weather. Our long, lingering autumns are marked by bright, cool days and soft evenings when a fleece jacket or warm sweater will suffice. Fall here is the preferred season for surfers since the water temperature is welcoming and we get big swell courtesy of Caribbean hurricane waves riding the Gulf Stream to our shores. Our winters bring enough snow and ice to enjoy the great outdoors in a blanket of fun, fluffy stuff while rarely being unpleasantly cold.
Spring temperatures usually range from -5 C to 22 C (23 F to 72 F). Daytime temperatures are generally warmer.
Summer temperatures average around 10 C to 25 C (50 F to 77 F).
Fall temperatures tend to be in the 2 C to 20 C (36 F to 68 F) range.
Winter temperatures average from -10 C to 4 C (14 F to 40 F).
