Explore the Fundy Shore in SummerSummer is the season of discovery. It might be a piece of Nova Scotia amethyst sparkling on the shores of Parrsboro or Joggins that you happen upon while rockhounding on a lazy summer afternoon by the sea. Or it could be discovering the sport of harness racing for your first time with equine athletes racing by you in a blur of silks, legs, wheels, and will to win - with an announcer calling the action in a frenzy and the crowd cheering their favourite to the finish line in a roar that lifts you to your feet. Or maybe it’s finding out that riding the tidal bore is actually one of the most exciting things you’ve ever done.
Then again, it could be that you are thrilled to make a quieter, calmer discovery like chancing upon the studio of a Mi’kmaq artist and getting to spend a visit talking about art one-on-one. This is also the season to discover the singular beauty of our parks. There are more than a dozen provincial parks in the region that are yours to explore from little picnic parks like Anthony that invites you to roll up your cuffs and wade in the warm waters to the 29 km of coastline and 40 km of hiking trail that are part of Cape Chignecto Provincial Park home to the rare coastal geological formations, like the famous Three Sisters, and old-growth forest. Sometimes the best discovery is meeting a like-minded traveller along the hidden paths in the wilderness or watching your child make a new friend around the communal campfire in a campground by the ocean’s edge.
Making a delicious discovery in a farm market that sells homemade blueberry pies, or hearing the music of a local singer-songwriter in a small cafe on a summer night, learning ancient legends in the Glooscap Heritage Centre or discovering that lobster tastes best boiled in seawater mere hours after its landed – it doesn’t take long to discover something you’re going to love for the rest of your life on a summer day along the Fundy Shore.
