
Explore the Northumberland Shore in FallThe town of Pictou welcomes the autumn season with New Scotland Days Living Heritage Festival marking the arrival of the original Scottish settlers aboard the Ship Hector. The Hector Heritage Quay and the whole community come alive with music, re-enactments, demonstrations, and more. New Glasgow celebrates the season with Harvest Time on the last weekend in October. Live music, plentiful food and full-on fall fun like pumpkin carving and pie eating contests. In Tatamagouche, the autumn air is filled with the oompa sounds of polka music as the annual Oktoberfest takes over the town. And historic Amherst hosts the Nova Scotia Fibre Arts Festival feature workshops, demonstrations, hands-on activities, and exhibits in the traditional crafts of quilting and rug hooking. Autumn is also an excellent time of year to explore the rich bounty of artisan studios and galleries and wealth of museums in the region from Northumberland Fisheries Museum, a unique complex which welcomes visitors to explore inside both a lighthouse and a lobster hatchery, to the Lismore Sheep Farm Wool Shop in River John. Guests to the farm can visit the sheep and explore the assortment of handcrafted products including woollen blankets and wooden knitting needles.
